Community Baby Shower, hosted by APA, welcomed our Chinatown/North Beach New Moms Group in February. Twelve expecting and new moms attended to learn about the different APA services available to new moms (support groups, respite care, in-home visitation, parenting and child development classes). They obtained information on self-care wellness, perinatal health resources, and nutrition (including SF Bay fish consumption guide).
These women discussed their excitement and anxieties of being a new mom during the baby shower at our 10 Nottingham Place location. Gift bags, diapers, and informational literature were distributed as well as baby boxes for safe sleep. We all know how hard and expensive it is to raise and provide for children. It takes a community of different people interacting with the children in order for them to experience and grow in a safe environment. APA has much success in the past with hosting community baby showers in the Tenderloin, Western Addition, Mission/SOMA, and Bayview.
The Community Baby Shower is made possible through support and donation from the
Baby Box Company/VVSF, Help A Mother Out, First 5 San Francisco, and Western States Petroleum Association.
Each community baby shower is a little different depending on the ethnic target participants and location. The next one is scheduled for May 14 at 10 Nottingham Place. Additional funding will certainly allow us to reach more new moms.
