Family Support Centers
APA's Family Support Centers (FSC) support the growth and development of all family members -- children, youth, and adults.
FSC Programs include:
Discovery Land -- A year-round, weekly parent-child interactive group. Parents play, sing, and read with their children, not only to bond, but to empower themselves to engage in these activities outside of the program. The group goes on occasional field trips. Early Literacy Children's Book Club -- A weekly program focused on the 0-5 age group. Storytellers read and sing with parents and infants. Children and parents can borrow books from APA's lending library. Parents are taught to recognize childhood milestones. After School Discovery Club -- Twice a month, this program provides 1st grade to middle school students the opportunity, once a month, to engage in arts and crafts enrichment activities or outdoor explorations to explore their community and become aware of resources available to them. Summer Reading Program -- This student program aims to develop interest in studying and exploring subject matters of interest. Phonetics and pronunciations are also taught. Parent Education Class -- This program consists of 12 parent support group meetings. Under the guidance of counselors, parents are encouraged to share parenting experiences and parenting techniques. Childcare is provided while parents attend the meetings. Yoga Class & Women Support Group -- A weekly morning yoga class to relax, followed by a support group session. Yoga mats, blocks, and blankets are provided for class use. Childcare is available. |
