Ping Yuen Family Support: Chinatown Community Development Center (CCDC) is partnering with us to launch a housing-based, integrated referral and connection system to engage and connect families to service programs which will strengthen the families’ resiliency and ability to remain stable in the Pings. APA’s role is to provide onsite staffing to broker relationships between public housing residents and city service providers.
The Ping Yuen public housing projects consists of 402 units of family housing that was only recently converted from public housing to affordable housing via the HUD sponsored Rental Assistance Demonstration Program. 73% of Ping Yuen and Ping Yuen North residents are of Asian descent, 16% are African American and 4% are Latino. Our agency has the experience (from our VVSF work and Sunnydale Housing efforts) in working with residents in public and affordable housing. We also have the diverse staffing capacity to increase service connection for Ping residents and their families.
Our social worker meets weekly with the Intensive Case Managers to determine which residents need services, particularly those who may have problems such as mental health, substance use, or money management. Currently APA's team sees about 25 people at its two groups facilitated monthly at Ping Yuen. The purpose of these groups is to engage the residents in activities to stimulate their mental and physical well being while discussing APA services available to them. Connections are now being made by the Ping Yuen staff for counseling and case management services offered by APA.
