Saying goodbye to Miss Daisy — and passing her legacy forward.

For nearly 19 years, a little bus named Miss Daisy rolled through San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood — taking seniors to the grocery store, carrying residents to field trips, and becoming one of the most recognized vehicles in the community.

She ran five days a week, always at full capacity — 24 passengers per trip, with a waitlist. That's an estimated 5,700+ rides every single year. Over her lifetime of service, Miss Daisy touched the lives of tens of thousands of residents, many of whom rode with her again and again.

People would honk when they saw her. They'd stop to take pictures. Driver Danny Gonzalez once said, "Miss Daisy has its own little following."

She wasn't just transportation. She was a lifeline — and a neighbor.

Now, Miss Daisy has finished her route with TODCO, the affordable housing nonprofit that put her to work in 2007. And in a beautiful act of generosity, TODCO has donated Miss Daisy to APA Family Support Services. The proceeds from her sale will go toward funding our work providing culturally appropriate services to families in need.

As Danny put it: "Saying goodbye to Miss Daisy was like saying goodbye to a friend."

We feel that too — and we're honored to carry her legacy forward.
